This corrects any mistaken reading that 71/54/41 are not 2026 figures. They are the official 2026 certificate thresholds. A cutoff is a score threshold, while a medal is an award; students should still check their own result through the official channel used for entry.

Hanlin’s 27 October report

As of 30 October 2026, the freshest first-party SMC results 2026 signal for China-region families is Hanlin’s 27 October report. Among its coached and registered entrants, not all coached students, Hanlin reported 19 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze, including one 125 full mark. The same report includes a roster whose count differs from the aggregate. This article therefore uses only the aggregate tally, attributed to Hanlin, and does not calculate a success rate or a total number of unique children.

The 30 October date is this article’s editorial check date, not the Hanlin report’s publication date. It marks a valid planning window between the 27 October report and the 19 November BMO1 exam. The result remains a report from one provider’s coached-and-registered group, not a China-region population result and not an admissions guarantee.

China-region BMO1 dates and entry route

For China-region students, Hanlin’s 27 October report lists the BMO1 registration deadline as 9 November 2026 and the BMO1 exam as 19 November 2026, 17:00-20:30. The same report lists the BMO2 registration deadline as 11 January 2027 and the BMO2 exam as 21 January 2027. These are reported China-region dates, not a universal timetable. Confirm eligibility, entry route and final timing with the organizer before making plans.

In the UK system, SMC performance is used in BMO1 eligibility. In the China region, Hanlin’s report says eligible students can register directly for BMO1 without an SMC score threshold. That is a reported China-region entry rule, not a finding that any particular reader is eligible. It also does not convert an SMC medal into an automatic BMO1 place.

SMC medal vs BMO qualification

An SMC medal is an SMC award. BMO1 qualification is a separate gateway. The official BMO1 line is 101+ subject to eligibility. A reported direct-registration option for China-region students is not evidence that a student meets UK eligibility criteria, and it is not evidence that BMO2 entry is secured. BMO2 has its own progression conditions and is not automatic.

Three checks for families after SMC results 2026

Check What to confirm Practical reading
Individual award Does the student’s own SMC result match the official 2026 band? Use the official awards page or registered account, not a provider tally.
BMO1 entry route Is the student entering through UK eligibility or the reported China-region direct route? Confirm category, deadline and eligibility with the organizer.
BMO2 progression Does the student meet the separate BMO2 progression rule? Do not treat BMO1 entry or an SMC medal as automatic BMO2 entry.

The Hanlin tally is useful because it gives a dated, attributed signal that a coached-and-registered group produced medals, including a 125 full mark. It is not a ranking of schools, a China-region success rate, or a guarantee of admission. Keep the individual SMC award, the BMO1 entry route and the BMO2 progression rule as separate checks.

This guide is independent and is not affiliated with UKMT. It does not guarantee admission, awards or progression.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are 71/54/41 the official 2026 SMC cutoffs?

Yes. The live UKMT awards page confirms 2026 Gold 71+, Silver 54+ and Bronze 41+. It also confirms BMO1 qualification 101+ subject to eligibility. The 2025 figures were Gold 72, Silver 57, Bronze 46 and BMO1 104. See the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge Awards page.

Are the 19 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze all Hanlin's coached students?

No. Hanlin's 27 October report attributes the tally to coached and registered entrants, not all coached students. The roster count differs from the aggregate, so this article uses only the aggregate and does not compute a success rate or total unique children.

Does an SMC medal or China-region direct BMO1 registration guarantee BMO2 entry?

No. An SMC medal is an SMC award; BMO1 is separate. Hanlin's 27 October report lists China-region BMO1 deadline 9 November 2026 and exam 19 November 2026, 17:00-20:30, plus BMO2 deadline 11 January 2027 and exam 21 January 2027. BMO2 has its own progression conditions and is not automatic. Confirm eligibility with the organizer.
